About the community
A community that brings together Yemenis in the Netherlands, working to strengthen connection and cooperation among them, support their part in society, and preserve their Yemeni identity and culture.
Who we are
The Yemeni Community in the Kingdom of the Netherlands is a voluntary, non-profit community organisation. It brings together Yemenis living across the Kingdom, strengthens the bonds of connection and cooperation between them, represents their aspirations as a community, and helps to serve their causes and needs.
We strive to build a close-knit Yemeni community whose members take part in social, cultural and educational life and make the most of the opportunities Dutch society offers, while taking pride in their Yemeni identity and preserving their language, culture and heritage.
We believe that successful community work rests on participation, transparency and mutual respect, and that the community’s strength comes from the cooperation and solidarity of its members.
What we work for
Connection and solidarity
Strengthening the bonds between members of the community, encouraging cooperation and mutual support, and organising gatherings and occasions that bring people together.
Knowledge and awareness
Providing information and guidance that help members of the community understand their rights and duties, and find their way around the rules and services in the Netherlands.
Integration and identity
Supporting the integration of members of the community into Dutch society, while taking pride in our Yemeni identity, the Arabic language, our culture and our heritage.
Transparency and good governance
We are committed to organised and transparent work, to encouraging participation and free elections, and to respecting the privacy of members’ data and the independence of the community’s work.
Our goals
To look after the educational, health, legal and other interests of members of the community and their families, and to help solve their problems together with the embassy and the authorities concerned.
To develop the skills of members of the community, improve their chances on the job market, and support and showcase talented and creative people.
To support national, cultural, social, sports and artistic activities.
To strengthen the ties of members of the community with their homeland and their sense of national belonging.
To strengthen brotherhood, affection, tolerance, cooperation and mutual support between members of the community.
To unite the energy of members of the community, ease their integration and strengthen their position in Dutch society.
To preserve the national and cultural identity, teach the children Arabic, and pass on Yemeni customs and heritage.
How we work
We do this through lectures, seminars, workshops and exhibitions, regular gatherings for members of the community, celebrating national occasions and religious holidays, and taking part in conferences on matters that concern Yemenis.
How the community is organised
The community’s work rests on an organisational structure that sets out responsibilities, strengthens participation and oversight, and keeps the work organised and focused on serving members of the community.
General assembly
The community’s highest authority, made up of the members who meet the membership conditions. It discusses plans and reports, takes part in the main decisions, and elects the board and the oversight and inspection committee in line with the statute.
Board
Runs the community’s affairs and carries out its plans and programmes, oversees its activities and initiatives, follows up on the needs of members of the community, and coordinates with the authorities and organisations concerned.
Oversight and inspection committee
Follows the board’s financial, administrative and technical performance, checks compliance with the statute, and helps to strengthen transparency and accountability through its reports and recommendations.
The current board and the oversight and inspection committee were elected in The Hague in October 2025; the “Future” list (قائمة المستقبل) won a majority of the votes.
